Founded in 2014, Talkin' Things in partnership with Multi-Color Corporation has developed Smart Label, a digital solution for consumer products using integrated IoT technology.
Once a traditional label is applied to consumer products, the message it carries can no longer be changed. The physical label also provides no traceability to the product. Based on a cloud computing system, Smart Label allows the development of a smart packaging solution for product labels.
The Smart Label allows brands to attach information and content to the product label. This information can be changed at any time, at any stage of the logistics chain. Brands can update campaign information or incentive-based programs very easily, due to the smart technology. This ensures that out-of-date promotional products are no longer on the shelf for sale. Their Near Field Communication (NFC) based Smart Packaging System integrates iPhone’s and Android’s users.

Smart Label also allows brands to conduct live content optimization and testing right on the product shelf. The system enables the testing of different promotional campaigns, selecting the one likely to bring about the best results. The digital label can be optimized to relay different information to different customers, through automatic profile matching. Additionally, the label is location-specific, offering information tailored to a particular area.
Through Smart Label, MCC and Talkin’ Things offer a dedicated implementation technology to all kinds of labeling solutions such as pressure sensitive, shrink sleeves and roll-fed labels. Connected products are beneficial for a number of markets, including wine and spirits, healthcare, food and beverage, home and personal care, automotive and consumer durables among others.
Talkin Things and CSI have also introduced the very first NFC technology implemented inside the bottle closure adapted to mass production: it initiates the 2-stage communication: pre- and post-retail allowing brand owners to run their own, independent loyalty programs.
