nat-2™ has been a pioneer in sustainable eco-friendly luxurious footwear since its launch in 2007.
nat-2™ as a brand and project aims to create awareness in consumers’ and the industry’s minds that there are fantastic alternative materials, techniques and ways of thinking, especially in the luxury sector where established materials such as fur, leather or synthetic fibers, a flood of advertising are still considered as the real luxury and way to success.
For the company, the reason for using many sustainable and eco-friendly materials and techniques is not only the ecological aspect but also a matter of “good design”. Back in 1994, co-founders Matthias Thies and Ulrike Kotjan had already launched the world’s first 100% compostable, TÜV tested and proven shoes.
The company is using innovative natural resource materials such as real certified sustainable wood, real stone, real hayfield, real natural rubber, veggie-tanned leathers, real grass for its products as well as recycling materials such as real corn, coffee grounds, milk, PET bottles, glass, wine corks, leather leftovers, eco-cotton, pineapple fibers, etc.
The sneakers are all handmade and fair produced in a small Italian family manufacturer. The rainboots are produced in Italy or EU as well depending on where is enough time to professionally clean the machines before producing the recycled wellies.
The nat-2™ re-usable packaging includes shoeboxes made from recycled paper, flyers and descriptions printed on recycled paper, certified wooden hang tags from sustainable forestry.
Since 2009 they have won 16 international awards and are now delivering products to more than 30 countries worldwide.
In 2014 nat-2™ was announced one of the 30 most creative companies in Germany. One of Nat-2™ Founders is Designer Sebastian Thies who has risen from one of the oldest shoe-dynasties in Europe, representing the 6th generation shoemaker & creator since 1856.
