MBA polymers is a plastic recycling company that turns high-value waste into new desirable, and durable plastic. It produces granulates that are used by other global companies for their high-end products.
Post-consumer recycled plastics require less than 20% of the energy needed to produce virgin plastic from petrochemicals, saving vast amounts of Greenhouse Gases. The company believes that plastics are too valuable of a resource to burn and bury. Therefore in the past 20 years, MBA polymers have developed, patented, and commercialized technologies that recycle plastics, replaces virgin plastics, and closes the loop.
The company receives waste plastic material for processing from its JV partners in the UK, Austria, and China. The waste material mostly consists of automotive shredder residue (ASR), electronic waste, and municipal plastic waste.
The whole process takes place in 3 steps:
- Separating: Separation of polymeric material from highly complex waste products is done. First, the plastic rich shredder residue is fed into the process for size reduction. Then the non-plastics like metal, rubber, wood, glass, fluff, foam, textiles, or dirt are removed.
- Cleaning: In this step, cleaning, sorting, and purification of plastics by type and grade take place. During washing and preparation, the non-target plastics are removed. Polyolefin purification cleans and sorts PP and PE polymers. ABS & HIPS polymers are cleaned and sorted by Styrenic purifications.
- Finishing: After the waste gets cleaned, the granulates are formulated, blended, and compounded. After the quality checks, certification, and packaging, the product gets ready for the customers.
The company has adopted separation techniques from mining, metal recycling, and food industries and has developed its techniques and has already registered 60 patents. It uses multiple separate procedures to isolate targeted five plastics; ABS, HIPS, HDPE, PP, and Filled PP.
It has production units in Germany, Austria, China, and the UK, and the administrative units in India, Hong king, and the USA. Including all the recycling plants, the company has a combined production capacity of 170 kilotonnes per Annum (KTA), more than 130 KTA of which are in Europe.
MBA Polymers is globally leading in end-of-life recycling of plastics from consumer products such as computers, electronics, appliances, and autos. The list of clients includes names like Whirpool, Ford, Canon, HP, and LEONI, Lexmark, AEG, and more. Customers can find the right granulated according to their needs through the website.
The solution can help industries to conserve natural resources, save energy, and reduce the carbon footprint of their products.
