Loop is an innovative new e-commerce platform that rethinks disposability by partnering with some of the world’s leading brands and retailers to create a future that eliminates waste.
Loop customers will secure an online account for the opportunity to buy products that will be delivered to their home in a reusable Loop tote. A refundable deposit will be charged for each package which will vary depending on the package. If the customer buys approximately seven items (depending on the weight and size of products), the consumer can reach free shipping. Once the products have been used, the packaging can be placed back in the Loop Tote and the customer will go online to schedule a pickup. The customers will have the choice of either repeating the cycle or opting out, in which case they will get a refund for their deposits.
Loop will clean and sanitize the empty packaging that has been sent back - so it can be reused instead of ending up as waste. In the long term, as packages are become less suitable for use after many repeated cycles, TerraCycle will recycle them.
They have already partnered with major brands, including: Pantene, Tide, Crest, Clorox, Oral-B, Cascade, Gillette, Febreze, Dove, Axe, Degree, The Body Shop, REN Clean Skincare, Seventh Generation, Nature's Path, Hidden Valley, Hellmann's, and more.
TerraCycle has also partnered with two large retailers: Carrefour in France and Tesco in the United Kingdom. According to CEO Tom Szaky: "we are not trying to harm or cannibalize retailers, but instead we are trying to offer a plug-in that could make them better".
