Fastfeet Grinded collects old sports shoes, disassembles them, pulverizes them into granules and separates the same, to supply raw materials for playgrounds, athletic tracks, sports fields and soon sports shoes. The aim is to establish a circular economy.
Every year, billions of sports shoes are produced worldwide, which eventually end up in landfills after use. This waste contributes to environmental pollution, as rubber, the main component of sports shoes, is not easily degradable.
Fastfeet Grinded has developed an innovative recycling process, collecting used sports shoes and disassembling them into different parts. These are then further pulverized to create granules that are used as raw materials for the sports industry. The entire process is carried out locally and as per quality standards. The end products are TuV-certified too.
The soles of the shoes are used to create FFGRD Rubber, and are used as top layer for tracks, children’s playgrounds and gyms. The intermediate layer is used to create light and flexible FFGRD Foam, which is used as an underlay and infill material for sporting tracks. And the upper part of the shoe is used to create FFGRD Fiber, which is used for horse tracks or trails.
The end products by Fastfeet Grinded are claimed to be sustainable, colourful, affordable and responsible. The rubber present in old shoes is combined with natural EPDM to create 100% natural floors for sporting areas. These floors are ideal for public institutions and offices too.
Fastfeet Grinded was nominated for the Rabobank Sustainable Innovation Awards in 2019. It is also supported by StartCirculair, an organization that helps companies to create a circular economy. Fastfeet Grinded is associated with Euretco, for the collection of used shoes. It is also associated with Decathlon, runners lab, Lauf Cycling and ASICS.
The company is looking for funds to support the R&D development for their shoe recycling machine. This will allow them to offer a shoe to shoe solution.
