Carbiolice is the result of an alliance between Limagrain Céréales Ingrédients, a global seed company, CARBIOS, a green chemistry company developing enzymatic technologies, and the investment fund SPI, managed by Bpifrance.
Ever increasing plastic production since 1950s managed to saturate the world with plastic waste. Decomposing of plastic product can last from 400 to 1000 years with newer “degradable” compounds, but before that degradation can happen the waste will continue to clog the waterways, oceans, forests and other natural habitats that are filled with animals who mistake dangerous plastic for food.
Carbiolice is committed to sustainable development and circular economy to produce today's biopolymers and to offer, masterbatches that will allow to rethink the life cycle of single-use plastics packaging to achieve zero waste.
The company has successfully created an innovative, unique and universal green solution for plastics based on PLA called Evanesto. It is the company’s new enzymatic additive and will make PLA polymer compostable under domestic conditions. It will ensure a responsible end of life for single-use plastic based on PLA and PLA derivatives while helping to achieve the goal of zero waste. It can be used to make products that are 100% compostable & biodegradable. Carbiolice is a co-signer of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's press release, which aims to ban degradable OXO plastic packaging worldwide.
Evanesto performance has been successfully demonstrated on thin films and sheets, by tests performed by OWS under domestic composting conditions according to NF T51-800. It has accelerated market adoption through strong collaborations with industries. The range of commercial applications include single-use plastics for grocery and retail bags, rigid and flexible packaging for dairy applications, over industrial food, disposable tableware and agricultural mulch films.
Carbiolice was shortlisted for the Innovation Award 2019 "Bio-based Material of the Year".
