Greenhope is a social enterprise with a mission to convert the world toward more sustainable consumption and production through technologies in sustainable plastics and agriculture.
Plastic is one of the best modern human inventions, bringing unparalleled benefits to humankind, democratizing items at mass scale, drastically reducing transport cost and fuel consumption, prolonging and preserving food from farm to tables, extending food shelf life in supermarkets, and many others. But when discarded in the environment, traditional plastic can take 500 years to degrade.
The founder of Greenhope spent years searching for alternatives and has developed Ecoplas, a patented cassava/tapioca-based degradable bioplastic, that is sourced from farmer cooperatives across Indonesia who receive a ‘Fair for Life’ certified by IMO Switzerland. Their raw material is obtained through farmers’ cooperatives at a premium price above the market price so that the use of Ecoplas directly improves the welfare of Indonesian cassava farmers.
Ecoplas technology highlights:
- Bio-based plastic made of cassava (Certified German Din-Certco Bio-Based ASTM 6866).
- Actively and functionally biodegrades
- No special machinery required to convert
Ecoplas has launched many products in the market including shopping bags, Eco-wraps, tissue packaging, soil cover for sanitary landfill and hangers, with several more applications under development. It has the Indonesian Standard Ecolabel (SNI Ekolabel) and Type 2 Ecolabel.
The brand has received numerous acknowledgment and awards domestically and internationally as one of the most competitive bio-based materials towards next generation / sustainable green plastic.
Greenhope actively collaborates with various parties across local and national governments, the private sector (manufacturers, brand owners), and NGOs in ten countries around the world (and expanding rapidly) to deliver systemic changes for a better and more sustainable world.
