Yagi USA LLC in the US and Yamagin Inc. in Japan developed a wide variety of washable PPE that meets AAMI Level 2 standard even after 50 to 100 washes (the recommended maximum number of washes depends on the product).
They started selling the PPEs in the US and Japan in April 2021 and plan to expand their sales channels to the EU, South East Asia, and other countries around the world.
The PPEs use eco-friendly materials made by a "MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX" certified manufacturer.
Reusability of the product will contribute to the reduction of the waste plastics in PPEs which are disposed of in large quantities for just one time use.
There will also be a big monetary cost reduction benefit in the reuse of the PPEs for consumers.
Alchemist Material Inc., an environment startup in Silicon Valley, provides iPhone applications that help consumers track the washing count of these PPEs under the brand name, Cyclyees (TM).
The company is working on another project to convert waste plastics into hydrogen energy, and it sees the waste PPEs as the future energy source.
This will be an innovative solution to the current plastic waste problem.
Although the focus of the product is on environmental friendliness, its functionality is claimed to be better than that of conventional PPE in many areas. The features such as high breathability and the material ratio (Polyester 65% Cotton 35%) make the PPE comfortable to wear.
The product line includes not only regular medical gowns and scrubs, but also several unconventional PPEs such as aprons, ponchos, etc.
In addition to hospitals and nursing homes, there will be demand for the products in schools and offices that require more hygienic clothing during the Covid19 pandemic.
