Description

In Vietnam, Friesland Campina produces approximately 1 billion beverage cartons per year and the goal is to take meaningful action to lead with sustainability. The current emphasis of Vietnam PRO has been on the Collection and Segregation of Beverage carton waste. But the collection (buy-back) programs are fragmented, and there is a need for implementing a cost-effective and efficient model of collection and segregation augmented by innovative and scalable recycling solutions that can offset the cost incurred in the Beverage Cartons recycling Value Chain.

THE CHALLENGE

Lack of cost-effective scalable recycling solutions for Beverage cartons including high costs incurred during collection and sorting due to infrastructural and logistical inefficiencies in the waste value chain. This requires a multifaceted, collaborative approach with emphasis on adopting scalable cost-effective technology for collection, sorting and recycling.

THE THREAT

The government, environmental activists and eco-conscious consumers are leading a backlash against plastic waste. Regulations, bans and reputational risks are a threat to the business
