Incubator - CIIE.CO
CIIE.CO continuum was set up back in 2002 as an entrepreneurship centre at IIM Ahmedabad. In 2007 they launched and incorporated a technology business incubator. They are a partly govt funded organisation, have raised 30 Million USD so far and have a 85% survival rate with their startups.
Now their work has also grown into entrepreneurship research and publications, accelerators, venture funds, learning tools, innovation partnerships, and more. Set up at IIM Ahmedabad as a Centre of Excellence with support from the Government of India’s Department of Science and Technology and Government of Gujarat, this CIIE.CO is the epicentre of The Innovation Continuum. CIIE has now expanded its location to Jaipur hosted at Startup Oasis and equipped itself with virtual learning programs for startups working from anywhere in the country.
CIIE aims to back fearless entrepreneurs building disruptive solutions. They stand with the startups at their risky early stages, when they need most support. Through the continuum of incubation, acceleration, capital, insights - they give what it takes for these driven entrepreneurs to make superlative impact.
They contribute to startups in the following stages:
- Idea Stage - Working with government agencies and corporates, they channel grants for idea stage startups that are building product based solutions in areas like cleantech, biotech, defence, etc. They are able to facilitate capital to over 50 startups every year.
- Seed Stage - CIIE typically invests INR 20 lacs to 1 crore per venture. They have a record of enabling their ventures to attract over INR 30 for every rupee invested by CIIE.
- Seed to Growth Stage - Through innovation and inclusion, CIIE supports these startups to scale up to achieve milestones.
CIIE works closely with corporates to support innovations that are aligned to their strategic goals. They facilitate startups, gain access to the corporates' networks, wisdom, resources and much needed support for their go-to-market goals. They have enabled the corporate-startup engagement in a variety of ways including co-creation of ventures, co-investing, creating sector specific interventions and programs, channeling CSR donations and grants towards innovation.
Beyond this, they work with central and state government departments to build innovations impacting regions or marginalised communities. Individual angel investors, IIM A alumni, subject matter experts, mentors, coaches and so on are brought on board to support the new ventures.
CIIE.CO has provided capital and holds stake in startups such as UnboxRobotics, StrataEnviro, Oizom, Banyan Nation, etc. Some of their key corporate partners are Godrej, ICICI, Intel, Mahindra Finance, Tata, Greymatters Capital and so on.
