How do we get the circular economy turning - Martijn Lopes Cardozo
“That if you work on something you really care about you don’t have to push yourself, the vision pulls you” - Martijn Lopes Cardozo
Martijn Lopes Cardozo is the founder of the company, Black Bear Carbon Black based in Nederweert, Netherlands. Black Bear has developed technology to upcycle waste tires into high-quality carbon black, gas and oil. This brings tremendous benefits to the environment by reducing CO₂ emissions and generating green energy. As a result of several technical and patented innovations, Black Bear produces high quality recovered carbon black, making the process commercially viable. In the process of making carbon black, they produce more energy than they consume, meaning we have a negative environmental footprint. With this unique process, Martijn has created a circular economy creating gas and oil from the difficult issue of tire disposal. The company's mission is:
"...to upcycle all waste tires and thus reduce oil use, with CO2 emission reductions equivalent to planting more than 1 billion trees..."
In the TED talks video below Martijn talks about his path as an entrepreneur utilizing the circular economy concept. He explains, "...circular economy sounds very complicated…let me try to explain…based on the principles that modern nature has used for millions and millions of years…a very old way of looking at the world…but many of us seem to have forgotten about it."
